European Troops Deployed to Greenland as Arctic Defense Is Strengthened Amid Rising Geopolitical Tensions
COPENHAGEN – European military forces have begun deploying troops to Greenland, marking a significant step to reinforce Arctic defence as geopolitical competition in the region continues to escalate. Defence officials confirmed the move on Friday, citing growing security concerns tied to increased military activity, expanding shipping routes, and heightened interest in Arctic resources.
The deployment, carried out in coordination with Denmark and allied partners, is aimed at boosting surveillance capabilities, strengthening rapid-response readiness, and safeguarding critical infrastructure across Greenland’s vast and sparsely populated territory. Military planners said rotational units will be stationed at strategic locations, supported by enhanced radar coverage and air and maritime patrols.
